REVIEW; Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo foundation

Recently i have tried out the Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo foundation for a couple of months and thought that i would share my honest thoughts.

This foundation is described as the following on Sephora.com....

  1. It is meant to provide excellent coverage.
  2. It should not compromise a smooth striking finish.
  3. It has 21 percent pigment which means it is meant to cover tattoos.
  4. It should last 24 hours.
  5. Your skin should feel smooth and hydrated with it on.

The foundation comes in the following 14 shades....

The range of shades is impressive as it matches a broad range of skin tones and there is quiet a
large variety to choose from which was nice. Finding the right shade was very easy.

I will be reviewing this foundation in the following categories and giving it a final mark out of 10.

1. coverage.
2. Wear.
3. Finish/ Skin texture.

Coverage: As soon as the foundation is pumped onto the back of your hand you realize just how thick the product is. As soon as applied to the face however it feels very oily and heavy. Once you blend it out it does evenly cover the face even if there is spots of acne or redness the skin does look an even colour and the heavy feeling does go away. I did find that it did not cover beauty marks however, and its supposed to cover tattoos so that was a disappointment but as far as a regular foundation goes the coverage is above average. Im going to say 8/10.

Wear: This foundations wear was  extremely dissapointing to me. After 2 hours of wearing it the colour of the foundation changed all of a sudden to a very tanned orange when earlier it was my exact skin colour. 4 hours later i literally started to look like a carrot and even my friends noticed. The coverage was still solid however my tzone started getting very oily and i do not have oily skin to start with so i assume it was the foundation. There was also some minor creasing near the under eyes which was very annoying because i had to keep applying concealer which made my face feel even more heavy. The wear of the foundation definitely ruined it for me, I'm going to give the wear a 6/10.

Finish/ Skin Texture: The finish of the foundation for the first 2 hours was perfect. The colour match was perfect and my skin felt soft and velvety, and it appeared very even and smooth even on the spots of my face with minor acne. However this all took a turning point after the first 2 hours where my tzone got oily, my under eyes were creasing and, my skin colour turned to an unattractive orange. The feeling of my skin changed too, i felt very heavy and greasy towards the end of the day and all's i felt like doing was washing my face, it was pretty bad. Especially because the foundation states to last up to 24 hours when mine could barely make 8 hours (a solid day) without touchups and the feeling of just taking it off. It did not create any breakouts after (thank god) but the feeling and the change of finish as you wear it was definitely too much for me. Im going to give the finish/ skin texture a 5/10.

Overall: Overall this product disappointed me. For the 2 months i was playing around with it, i even
mixed it with other foundations to see if that would help the wear and finish however it did not. This product costs $43.00 which being honest was a rip off for me i rather have bought a MAC foundation or a Makeup Forever one as they are also known for having a range of high coverage thick foundations. I am going to rate this product an overall 6.5/10. This foundation was highly praised for its excellent performance however i just did not find it that way and this is just my honest opinion.
